Acceptances For The 2nd Cohort

We are delighted to share that 5 students have received acceptance letters from prestigious universities worldwide. The selected students will be pursuing their academic aspirations at UC Berkeley, University of Prague - Life Sciences, Macalester, and Elmhurst (x2).

We would like to thank our supporters for their contributions to our fundraising campaign, which has made it possible for us to provide our students with the support they need to succeed!

However, we still require your financial support to cover the remaining expenses such as flights, visa fees, suitcases, and winter clothing for those who are traveling to colder destinations. Every donation counts, no matter how small, and will make a significant impact on the future of our students.

Storm Damage at Our Facility

We just wanted to keep our community in the loop about what's happening with Elimisha currently.  On May 15th, we had some scary news, when we learned that a tree collapsed on our center during a storm, injuring one of our students.  She was struck in the face by corrugated iron, and is now at home recovering.  Both rooms have been destroyed, and the power installation is also in disarray. The fallen tree has made the classrooms inaccessible.  It was a very scary day, and we're trying to figure out next steps, including where the students will study and how we'll rebuild.  We appreciate your support through issues like this, but our spirits are high and we’re confident we will build back stronger!

Introducing The Third Cohort with Short Bios!

We are thrilled to announce the newest members of our Elimisha Kakuma family! After an extensive selection process, including multiple rounds of reviewing test scores, reading essays, and conducting interviews, we have accepted 12 new students. Although there were many qualified applicants, we had to limit our selection due to capacity constraints.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our supporters, without whom we would not be able to provide our students with the necessary resources they need to succeed. We are honored to have you on our team and look forward to continuing our journey together. Thank you for your support!

Elimisha Doing Community Service!

Last week, students volunteered at Clinic 2 in Kakuma 1.  They dismantled an old clinic tent, leaned the compound, and offered psychological support to patients.  We're so proud of our students' commitment to serving their community.  View photos from the experience here.

New Computers

Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to purchase new computers for our incoming students. We are excited to see our students working diligently on their laptops, and utilizing technology to enhance their learning experience!  View some photos here.

The Meeting between Elimisha Kakuma Students and the Admission Team from Ashesi University in Ghana

Here is a short description of the university visit by one of our students: “It was an hour-long session that left an incredible impact on everyone. The presentation was particularly informative as they shared a lot of details about Ashesi University.  They dug into the admission process and financial aid, and her insights were enlightening.

We learned that the University is making a tremendous impact not only in Ghana but globally, with students from various countries, including South Sudan.  The meeting was a resounding success, and we look forward to more such opportunities to explore education and career prospects further. The presentation by Araba (from the Admission Team at Ashesi) and the engagement with our students were inspiring, and we are proud to be part of the Elimisha Kakuma program.”
